Municipality-specific art bags available for loan from Lastu libraries

The Regional Council of Päijät-Häme is introducing an art bag that can be borrowed in every municipality of Päijät-Häme, allowing residents to try making art in their daily lives and get inspired by art.

The art bag can be borrowed from the library, and each municipality has one bag available for loan. The bags circulate only within the library service of their own municipality. The loan period for the art bags is two weeks.

The art bags contain instructions and tips for making art on different themes. Each municipality has its own unique bag. Eight artists have been involved in creating the bags.

The idea for using art bags originated in Asikkala, where literary art cases have previously been available for loan. Now the activity is being expanded to the entire Päijät-Häme region. The project is part of an initiative aimed at developing municipal cultural activities and promoting the accessibility of art. The concept and compilation of the bags were overseen by Laura Mellanen, who served as the regional artist for the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme. The bags were created as part of the Päijät-Häme Cultural Network project, funded by the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
