Libraries in Lahti Opened to the Public on 1 June

Library spaces will be opened to the public on Monday, 1 June. Once again, it is possible to go to the library shelves and look for something interesting to read. However, safety aspects must be taken into consideration.

Brief library visits are preferable. You should avoid staying in the library longer than is necessary. When borrowing and returning material, we recommend that you use the self-service check-out and return stations. If you just want to return material to the Main Library, you can also use the book drops outside the library.

Keep a safe distance from other customers and the staff. Use hand disinfectant when you enter the library and before you leave. Also use the hand disinfectant before and after touching library equipment.

The periodicals reading room, rooms for recreational activities, public computers and multifunctional devices are available. We provide service but for safety reasons, contacts between staff and customers are expected to be brief and a safe distance should be kept.

After 1 June overdue fines will begin to accrue as usual. And as before, there will be a fee for reserved material that has not been picked up within a week after a notice has been sent to you.

Mobile Library

The mobile library will start operating on 1 June. Safety guidelines should be observed in the mobile library as well.

Brief visits to the mobile library are preferable. It is better that you visit a mobile library primarily to pick up material you have reserved in advance. Keep a safe distance from others and take into consideration that only three people at a time may enter the mobile library. You should also remember that the mobile library may be late.

Self-Service Libraries and Main Library Self-Service Hours

Self-service libraries will only have limited opening hours.

The Jalkaranta and Liipola libraries are open for self-service from 10:00 to 12:00 on weekdays. The Ahtiala Library self-service hours are 10:00-13:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Main Library is open for self-service from 8:00 to 10:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays.

The staff is present during the self-service hours but do not provide service. As at other times, close contacts and staying in the library for a long period should be avoided.

Events at the Library

In the summer months the library does not organize public events of its own. Events in the autumn will be announced in August.

The meeting rooms and group study rooms can be reserved as usual. However, they are only open to a limited number of people at a time: the Tuohi meeting room and Puru and Pilke study rooms to two people and the Kaarna meeting room to three people. The auditorium has now space for 40 people.

Following safety guidelines is the priority

It is important to keep a safe distance from others and maintain good hand hygiene. You should not come to a public event or gathering or to a public space if you have symptoms of the flu. We will follow the development of the coronavirus situation and assess the functioning of the library services that have been made available. If the situation changes, there may be changes in the library services.

Use hand disinfectant and if necessary, ask for a cleaning cloth at the Service Desk to wipe a computer keyboard.
